Amiga Mini: Another Apple Design Clone
If imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery than Apple must be one of the most flattered companies on the good, green earth. So many companies copy it in one form or another that I only wish I had a a nickel for each time they did. In that case, I would be a rich man by now.
The latest company to copy one of Apple’s designs is Commodore U.S.A with its new Amiga mini computer, a computer that that Gizmodo describes as looking rather like a “hideous” retake on the Mac Mini, and as you can see in the opening photo, it does indeed look much like theĀ Mac mini seen below, but, if you ask me, it’s rather a whole lot uglier with that huge Amiga branding on it.
Commodore U.S.A. describes its new Amiga mini this way:
The Best Things Come In Small Packages
[...] Made of 100% aluminum and presented in silver or black, it is slick and eye-catching in appearance. Equally as good sitting beside a computer monitor on your desk as it is in any living room, the new AMIGA mini is perfect for use as either a Home Theater System, a Workstation or as a gaming machine.
Well, personally I call it a rip-off! Not only is it a rip-off of the Mac mini’s basic design but its description is also totally unoriginal. You would think that they would have preferred to come up with something a little bit more unique on their own rather than this obvious rip-off design, but no! If the Amiga mini demonstrates anything, it’s that when it comes to design, Apple is king.
