Benchmark: iPad 2 Faster than Android Xoom
The iPad wanna-bee Android Xoom tablet is blown away by the new iPad 2.
iPad 2 vs Motorola Xoom Tablet GPU Benchmark
iTuned Steve Jobs’ iPad 2 song is right! Apple iPad is better than the Xoom:
iPad 2 is shown to be up to 7 times faster than iPad 1 and Motorola Xoom Android Honeycomb tablet in GPU benchmarks. The GPU benchmarks shows the capability of iPad 2 graphic performance for 3D apps such as games.
Example, the iPad 2 rockets in the GLBenchmark texture fetch test:
We’re talking about nearly a 5x increase in texture fetch performance. This has to be due to more than an increase in the amount of texturing hardware. An improvement in throughput? Increase in memory bandwidth? It’s tough to say without knowing more at this point.
Note, even the original iPad beat the 1 year “newer” Xoom with nominally better specs in some tests.
Basically, Xoom (starting $800) tried to beat the one year old iPad ($500) by selling a 60% more expensive product with Android that’s bulkier and barely better. But the iPad 2 (starting $500, if you can find one) blows away the wanna-bee Android tablet by a long shot. And that’s before the considering all the great apps available for iOS vs. the open wasteland of the Android market.

The biggest problems with Android devices, be they phones or tablets like the Xoom, is that they are all built on stolen IP! Sooner or later the slow moving legal process will most likely force Android back to the drawing board as it is legally forced to remove its main selling features such as multi-touch, and Oracle’s code among other stolen code.
Better sooner than later.
