Apple released the first easy-to-use video chat on mobile phone earlier this year with Facetime for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. Now the intuitive software is coming to the Mac.

Apple FaceTime Mac

Years before Skype and other apps had video chat, Apple computers had the ability to video chat and can even do free video conferencing with multiple parties with the built-in iChat app.

The new Mac OS X Facetime will connect with its dedicated app, not with iChat. You make video calls from the built-in address book to iPhone 4, iPod 4G, or other Macs. Facetime for Mac will automatically adjust portrait or landscape mode.

The Beta Facetime Mac download is available today. It is likely to require a recent Mac OS X such as Snow Leopard.
