Apple has surpassed Motorola as the largest U.S. cell phone maker in first quarter of 2010.

Apple Largest U.S. Cell Phone Maker, iPhone surpasses Motorola

Apple iPhone reaches another milestone.

In 2010 Q1, Apple sold 8.8 million iPhone.
While Motorola sold 8.5 million cell phones.

That means more people choose to vote for the iPhone with their wallet than getting cheap dumb-phones from Motorola or the kludge known as the Motorola Droid.

The success of the Apple iPhone is impressive. Against healthy competition and even more FUD, Apple has gained significant market share in the mobile device industry.

In terms of units of phones sold, Apple is in third place in the world after Nokia based in Finland (maker of cheap give away phones) and Research in Motion (RIM maker of BlackBerry) based in Canada.

Back in 2007 when the iPhone was introduced, Motorola CEO Ed Zander promised an iPhone killer. Where is it now?
