Gizmodo Writer Pwned By Anti-Apple Trolls: Apple Store Genius Bar Top Horror “Stories”
Debunk: I’m Sorry, There’s a Hard Drive Stuck in Your Shuffle
A story that has lack of technical competence, refusal to repair product, and “acting like a total bastard.”
“I showed the shuffle, devoid of scratches or any wear and tear beyond some minor dirt… The Genius took one look at it and said ‘warranty doesn’t cover dropping it on the floor, sorry.’”
“The Genius proceeded to explain how, when a hard drive is dropped on the floor, the spinning disk can get disrupted or even broken because there’s lots of moving parts.”
The writer claims that after he said the shuffle is flash based and has no harddrive, “The Genius laughed at me.”
“The manager reiterated that the tiny hard drive in the shuffle can be messed up if you drop it. After a bit of back-and-forth, the manager agreed to get a new shuffle. But wait, there’s more—the replacement shuffle didn’t have a cap. When James asked, the manager didn’t want to give him one. Relenting, he tossed it across the bar.”
“I am now a proud Zune owner, and we are Apple-free in my household, in large part thanks to experiences like this one.”
Think Mac Genius are not very smart? Think again. This story fabricator obviously doesn’t know the qualifications required to work at the Apple Genius Bar.
Genius laughing at the customer to their face? All highly trained service industry employees are trained to know better than to laugh at customers. In other words, they don’t laugh at customers. Not happening.
The replacement product doesn’t have all the parts? Manager agrees to replace the product but doesn’t want to provide a minor, missing part? Unlikely.
If the manager agrees to replace the product, the manager would see to it that the customer is happy. If it’s missing a part, the manger would get it.
Every Mac Genius is trained and certified. There are regular exams on hardware and software competency. If they don’t pass the exams, they cannot work. Chance of a Mac Genius not knowing iPod shuffle has solid state memory is 0%.
