2000-2009: Decade of Apple Conquests (Even Against Microsoft)
Conclusion
To those who still disparage Apple as an unsuccessful fringe company (using the old computer OS market share excuse), watch out.
Although due to laws of economics, mainly price elasticity of demand, the competition has not swept the computer industry yet, maybe the next decade, but Apple does have most of the premium computer market. As mentioned by “I’m On A Mac” music video, “If you’re on a PC then you are not C.E.O.”
For a decade, Apple has achieved great success competing against some tough, embedded competitors. Apple has revolutionized portable media players, music industry, mobile phone industry, and mobile software distribution industry, while gaining market share in computer operation systems. Apple computers continues to be the tool of choice for those who care about total cost of ownership.
Microsoft’s perceived ability to ape and maim by leveraging its Windows monopoly has proven consistently unsuccessful against Apple’s advances in the past decade.
So, looks like there is some sense and order in the world after all. As Apple’s previous decade of success has shown, free-market competition is prevailing in the tech industry.
There’s no better news than to start a new decade on a great note. Now, where is that rumored Apple Tablet / iSlate / Apple Slate? Maybe the Apple event set for January 26 or 27, 2010 will bring Steve Jobs’ industry famous “one more thing?”
